Product description

Combining stylish looks with power sport timing and heart rate monitoring features, this mid-sized Timex Digital Fitness watch (model T5J031) can be worn by both men and women. It features a chest strap heart rate monitor, easily accessible function buttons, durable resin case, and comfortable resin strap with a stylish tapered profile. For integrating heart rate monitoring into your training, this watch enables you to track your avareage heart rate and pre-set target heart rate zones with data for time spent within that zone and alarms. It can also display data for calories burned and offers a recovery timer that measures your heart rate after a timed recovery during or after your workout. Sport timing features include:
  • 100-hour chronograph with lap and split, either in large digits
  • 27-lap memory with average heart rate per laps
  • 100-hour countdown timer
  • Alarm with 5-minute backup
  • Month/day/date display with 12/24-hour time
  • 3.5-year battery life

The Indiglo night-light uniformly lights the surface of the watch dial using patented blue electroluminescent lighting technology. It uses less battery power than most other watch illumination systems, enabling your watch battery to last longer. The Night Mode feature allows you to illuminate the Indiglo night-light for 3 seconds with any button press, regardless of the mode or function. The watch is water resistant to 50 meters (165 feet)--suitable for swimming but not for diving. All Timex heart rate monitor sensors have batteries that can be replaced by consumers without requiring them to be returned to the manufacturer.

Customer Reviews
Mistake, Mistake -- 2010-03-08
As a watch this Timex T5J031 is great - but trying to use for heart rate monitor - horriable. The chest belt stopped collecting data in less than a month - not sure if it's battery or what - but hate this watch. Had to order another without chest belt. I read the reviews but did not listen to the low rated reviewers (should have).

Look elsewhere -- 2010-03-02
This is not a product I would recommend. First off the watch is advertised as Water Resistant to 50 meters.....The packaging states only 30.

The Heart rate strap is erratic and the readings are all over the place. I've tried water and gel but no change.

The Heart rate strap ONLY works with the watch. I've tried it with Precor and Life Fitness machines at the gym. Nothing.

The Calorie burn is not even worth putting on this watch. 521 Calories on a 30 minute walk? Yeah right. 1015 Calories burned on a 45 eliptical session? Not a chance.

In fact this product does not do anything right other than tell the time and stop watch. And you don't need this watch for that. This one goes right back to Amazon.

Great budget HRM watch. -- 2010-02-16
I have loved this watch and have run in it for 2 years now. Only thing I've had to do is replace the battery in the heart rate band/transmiter. It does a lot of what the more expensice HRM's do and you can customize settings pretty well. Has functioned great. Recently upgraded to a GPS HRM watch but will still use this I'm sure. Countdown timer is useful to have. Wish it would have lap storage like other running watches.

Bottom line - have liked using it and have used it a alot (just yesterday!). Has several display modes and really does work as a training tool.

Highly recommended for those looking for a HRM to use during training who don't want to spend >>100$ on an HRM running watch with all of the super fancy features.

Excellent once you get it set up. It was a little difficult to understand all the instructions to set it up, but once I got it, it works great. I like that you can change the battery, also. You can't do that with Polar products.

Good basic HRM -- 2010-02-12
This is a good HRM for the money. The manual is not very good and the Timex website is even worse. No matter what I do, it seems to want to start new laps. So at the end of an even, I have 5 or so laps even if I have not touched any buttons. The description says it is data recorder compatible but there is no mention of this in the manual so I don't know what that means. The best thing about this watch is that once it gets a heart rate, it stays locked on and is up to the second accurate.
