Customer Reviews Be sure your prepared for the monthly subscription fee -- 2010-08-18 Overall its a good product and does what it says, logs your daily calorie expenditure so you can better plan your eating and workouts. Great for help with those last 5-10 lb or if you've fit a plateau. My problem with this is the monthly fee which I wasnt expecting. I thought it was to use their "extra" services, but no, you must pay $7-12/mo (depending on how long you sign up for) to use the gowear. Somehow this amount is also taxed and they will keep charging you until you cancel. Be prepared for the additional $92/yr for their cheapest plan. It's worth it since the gadget is great, but kind of greedy on the manufacturers part since the software is something they could have easily put on a CD to install on your computer.
Love It! Does what it says! Easy to Use! Definitely Recommend It -- 2010-08-16 I have had my GoWearFit for a week now. I totall love it! I expected it to say 1500 or 1800 calories a day for my calorie intake. Nope - instead it said 2900. I was shocked and amazed. What? No starvation, no killer drop in what can eat. Yep and it has worked. I told it I wanted to lose 2 pounds per week and during week #1 I am down 2 pounds. I watched my calorie intake and burn and kept the deficit in the right area and saw results.
I bought the display and definitely encourage you to spend the extra for display. It is nice to be able to check progress during day without removing arm band and plugging into computer to synch data. The display is not pretty to wear but gives you feedback when you need it and much quicker then synching everytime you want to check yourself. I like the display becuase can see my target (goals), yesterday and today's information for calorie burn, steps taken, activity time. Quick checks can make the difference. If GoWearFit made a prettier display - I definitely would inveset in it. Mine is gray band and face. Not horrible looking but bulky. I do wear it to work in office. So not so bad you wont want to wear it. I wear as a watch becuase afraid I would lose it if clipped onto my pants.
CAUTION: I found out that if I wear the GoWearFit while on my 30 minute commute (one way) that it picked up the road vibrations as steps and activity. Some trial and error has led me to this conclusion. When riding in a car - remove it OR as I do - keep arm perpendicular to body (resting on window edge, out from shoulder) and it wont think you are getting in steps and activity. If arm is parrell to body (hanging down, resting on arm rest) then it will think you are taking steps and getting in activity minutes which could cause an error in calorie burn number. Other than this issue, I have not found any other times when I feel the device is not accurate.
Sleeping - AMAZED! It knew when I was awake, laying in bed, asleep. This is a really cool function.
Food logging - I read some reviews that folks did not like the food logging program. I have had no issue with it. I search for food and find it or something close (eating out items) or if I have the package can create a food immediately. Creating a food is very easy they have the data entry form set up to look like food label. During the week, I was able to go to a movie and eat popcorn and log it. We ate at a Hibachi restaurant, mexican and I was able to find an item close to what I ate to log into the software. If you do not want to log every item - they have a feature for you to enter a daily total.
Personally, I like to log the items. The system will then calcuate your carbs, fat, protein, and the other nutrient values and shows you a complete review of your intake. This is helpful in learning your eating habits and the make up of foods you eat.
The dashboard is a great resource. It has a summary view and then you can click an arrow and see detailed graphs of the entire day to be able to see when during the day your are getting your activity. They have a place (not sure under which menu) called Reports where you can print the information. They also have an export function - I have not used it. Not sure why I would want to use it. The printed reports are good for taking wiht you to doctors appointment.
The synch process if very fast and easy to do. Just plug it in and it does the rest.
Wearing the armband - I was afraid it would be uncomfortable and I would mess with it. After the first day, I forget it is even there. Sleeping was no problem either. I never woke up or felt it. It is very small and compact. I would recommend buying an extra armband ($8-$12) so that if you sweat or get it dirty you can swap out.
The online resources are top notch and easy to use. System is good on speed. At home the dashboard flips around quickly but at my work is is slower but defintely usable.
I will come back in one month and give an update on my GoWearFit.
Edit (August 20th) - Been 8 days and still loving it. I have had no issues. I definitley recommend getting the display. I have read reviews saying get disply and not online resources. Make sure you take a look a the online resources. The data that you get from the gowaearfit really is cool and interesting. Being able to see when you are active during your day, your steps and other items by the hour definitely provides valuable information for making some minor adjustments.
I did not want to start this and go extreme. So I changed NOTHING during the first week as far as exercise and made no drastic eating change. My goal after seeing the calorie allowance was to eat the amount or less and try to see where my calorie burn number was without additional effort. This has given me a good baseline to move forward from. I did not want to kill it week one by eating next to nothing and exercising every minute and the gowearfit has provided me great data about how my calorie intake and burn are on normal days.
I look forward now to increasing my exercise slowly and trying to make small diet changes. Yep, knew I liked carbs but did not know for a 7 day period they made up 84% of my diet.
Progress: Week #1 lost 2 pounds which corresponded the calorie deficit system shows
too much work -- 2010-08-16 I was excited to purchase this armband, i know people who had great results, but it didn't work for me that well.
I cook at home, i eat out may be once a month. 99 % of food a had to enter, plus create all recipes. Too much work. I'll spend this time at the gym :))
I returned the product.
Love it! -- 2010-08-13 My husband got me GoWear for Christmas 2009. I have not had any problems with it. It was easy to set up. It holds a good charge. I use programs on my iphone to track calorie and just use a daily esimate to keep track of the balance. The display screen is easy. I love the personal best and I love looking at where I really burn calories. It works great to keep me focused as long as I put forth the effort to strap the thing on my arm. The biggest draw back I have is that everyone wants to know what the heck it is. It is worth every penny! And Now they have skins to dress it up!
This is a Body Bugg just different name on the label. -- 2010-07-11 As of this writing I am nearing 30 pounds lost since I got my Body Bugg.
This is more than just a gadget, without the bodybugg I would exercise and see the say "250 calories burned" after a moderate walk. I would then think what could I eat less that day to be sure I didnt eat the 250 calories back on. While that is an OK approach it does not come close to the whole picture. I would starve myself hoping I didnt eat that 250 calories back. Which, in turn would make me miserable until I would give up and just gorge within a couple of days.
What the bodybugg does amazingly well is it gives you the whole picture. While walking up the stairs to put on my sneakers before my walk I burn calories. While sleeping I burn calories, while washing clothes I burn calories. Bodybugg adds them all up and gives you a 90% accurate count of your daily burn, so, you can actually eat pretty normally as long as you are willing to burn some calories on the treadmill later. It is the monitoring that we as humans can never achieve on our own. It takes some practice, some initiative to enter in every bit of food you eat. What you get in the end is an amazing system that will have you lose weight. As long as you are meticulous and honest you cant lose! Well actually you can you can lose as much as you want.
Pros:
+ 90% accuracy means that you have a very good knowledge of food in and cals burned. Keep it on the negative and you will lose weight.
+ light and low profile so you can wear it under most clothing without being noticed
+ Interactive website that can guide you in your loss
+ Pedometer and accelerometer measure every movement and combine this with skin temp and other data to accurately measure calories burned.
+ save a bunch of money buying this vs. the Bodybugg and get all of the same tools and benefits.
Cons:
- Nickel covered sensors means that you need to clean it often to not develop a rash. It can be managed just be fastidious in your cleaning methods.
- Addictive - may not be a con completely but I am watching my website a ton to see how I am doing.
TIPS FOR OWNERSHIP for those with nickel allergies:
After reading so many people with legitimate complaints about the nickel on this, I decided to edit my review to offer some help. When I first got this I left it on 24 hours a day and never cleaned it. I eventually got some little rash on the back of my arm. Since doing some real research I have found out that cleaning it will lessen your issues with it. Now I clean it several times a day and have 0 bumps on my arm and I still wear it 24 hours a day.
How can I make this work?
You have to clean this thing every day and maybe more if you have nickel allergies. What causes most bumps on the skin from nickel is from nickel salts that form when your sweat and acid break down the nickel. If left between the bugg and your skin + moisture you will get a rash. To prevent this do not wear it for like 30 minutes after you have a shower. After each exercise that you sweat, take it off, clean the plates thoroughly with ALCOHOL. Let it dry. Then put it back on once your skin is fairly dry. If this does not work you should use cortisone cream very thinly under the bugg. Last resort would be taking an antihistamine such as Alavert. If you want this bad enough you will find a way to make it work. Please check with your allergy doctor with regard to other measures you can take at home to allow you to wear this fantastic tool.
Overall if you are fat and need to drop your weight then you MUST get this tool. It is more important than any other piece of exercise gear you own. You could spend nearly this much on a pair of sneaker, so why not get a monitoring tool that can and will help you lose weight.
Good luck!
