Customer Reviews love the convenience -- 2010-07-31 Like everyone else I want/need to lose weight but don't have a lot of time to dedicate. The GWFDD works hand in hand with my Body Media arm band (aka my bodybug). Both to me are great motivators to work out! The display device is a great quick-view to see how many calories burned, steps walked and moderate activity I've done for the day. It also holds yesterday's counts as well. It's such a great motivator to get my butt moving and beat the totals from the day before. In 10 days I lost 3 pounds and haven't changed my eating habits - I can't wait until I do and am hoping to watch the weight drop away. The wristband is kind of chunky, especially since I don't wear normally watches, but I've actually gotten used to it.
GoWear watch dispaly -- 2010-07-19 I bought this about a month ago after I bought the arm monitor from Bodymedia at [...]. Costco had a great deal on the monitor and the subscription for online monitoring but did not sell the wrist unit. I took a chance that this would work with the arm monitor as they are made by the same company Body Media. Body Media makes three monitors under separate names Bodybugg, GoWear Fit and Body Media. The wrist unit was able to sync with my arm unit with no problems.
The wrist monitor is very "plasticy." Not attractive but certainly durable. Read out is large and it has a backlight for darkness. It lets you know when you have reached your goals for the day -activity minutes, calories burned, steps walked. I like the instant feedback you get from the monitor verses having to plug into your computer if you had the arm monitor alone. Each time you remove the wrist unit or the arm unit you have to resync it them but this is no more than pushing two buttons.
I am very pleased with the unit and rate it highly.
Super Motivator! -- 2010-07-10 I purchased the GoWear armband back in March. . .silly me, I forgot the Display Device. I immediately ordered it the day I received the armband. I love the motivation it gives me. I wore the armband for about a month before I started increasing my activity level so I could have a base level gauge. I then started to increase my physical activity (especially moderate) and then about 2-3 weeks later I started logging my food. To tell you the truth I lost my first Display Device about 3 1/2 weeks ago and traced where I had gone and, well, I ordered another one. I find it invaluable. I need to check throughout the day to see if I am getting my steps in and I began exercising at work during my lunch hour and I started getting my vigorous activity. The whole system has been beneficial for me. I am in my mid-50s and I am trying to lose weight. I am taking it slowly but the weight is steadily going down. I have lost 18 lbs since I started using it. What I find so extremely beneficial is that news had come out saying that older women needed to engage 60 minutes every day in moderate activity to maintain weight. This was right at the time I had gotten the armband and display device and I thought how useful just for that! This is the first time I can truly say that I will get down to my goal weight and be able to keep it off! I hate logging food in but that's a key component if you are wanting to lose weight. I look forward to GoWear starting to offer help tips for exercise, etc. By the way it even kept track of my vigorous activity on my bicycle!
Great idea, faulty design & construction -- 2010-06-16 I was really excited to get my BodyMedia Fit along with the display. I have been wearing it for a month and have enjoyed monitoring my daily calories and steps as I go. The concept of this device is great, but the durability is not-so-good.
The watchband is incredibly inflexible and uncomfortable. It grinds into my wrist bones and is made of stiff plastic-type rubber. Because the watch is so uncomfortable (and less than stylish), I opted to use the clip-on unit. Over the next four weeks that I wore it, the actual unit got looser and looser on the clip-on attachment, until one day I looked down and it was simply GONE! It took me about an hour, but I found it, and returned it to where I purchased it from.
I'm keeping the armband unit for now since I think it does work well, with the exception of stationary vigorous exercise, which there is a work-around so it's not too big a deal. Just don't waste your hard-earned money on this little do-hickey because it's far from worth it.
LOVE LOVE LOVE! -- 2010-05-17 I definitely recommend this as a supplement to the Go Wear Fit. It's extremely motivating to watch the calories you burn and the steps you take as they come. I'm always pushing myself so much harder because I can physically see it. It's definitely worth the extra expense!
